Manager of Content Development at Software Company (south dakota)

Job Summary: Create, maintain and manage supporting documentation and web-based context sensitive help for our software products and services by adhering to established style guides and following industry best practices in technical writing. In addition, this position will serve as the focal point on projects and will assist in the definition of content management strategies, tools, and processes, as well as mentoring, training, and managing Content Development Specialists. The Manager of Content Development will also coordinate activities with the Instructional Design team to plan, design, develop and maintain effective online courses to train school district staff in the use of Synergy.
Job Responsibilities: Plan, design, research, write, edit and maintain installation and configuration guides, system user and administration guides, context-sensitive help and release notes. Manage Content Development team on projects. Manage the Instructional Design team on e-learning projects and the production of instructor led training materials.
Drive Content strategy and processes. Provide periodic status reports to management. Develop and adhere to style guides. Use standard industry best practices in technical writing.

Determine the documentation requirements and appropriate strategies needed to effectively convey the information to users by studying engineering or programming specifications and directions, experimenting with the software and interviewing subject matter experts including software engineers. Use instructional design techniques to enhance training materials. Author and maintain knowledge base content. Maintain and manage documents in archives to reflect code and content changes though the lifespan of the documents. Train and mentor team members on tool usage and technical writing practices. Provide timely and effective recognition, feedback, performance reviews and counseling to team members. Create and sustain a team environment that motivates high performance and commitment with an atmosphere of trust, respect, recognition, ownership and accountability. Approve PTO requests for staff members while ensuring deadlines are not impacted by time off. Provide assistance to other department members as needed. Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements: 3+ years of technical writing, editing and proofreading experience in the software industry. Prior experience serving as a Lead or Manager for content development teams. Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio and of the Adobe family of products including MadCap Flare, Acrobat X Pro, Photoshop, RoboHelp and Captivate.
